| The first thing that you need to do is research. Research for the medical schools that are accredited in the medical field AND are affordable. These are very important things. Cause if you don't go to an accredited school, you are basically wasting your time and you don't want to be in debt for the rest of your life. Because once you stop going to school, undergraduate or graduate, after that 6 months grace period, they are coming for blood and you don't want to get bad credit because of your inability to pay back those loans...TRUST ME!!!!! Believe it or not there are a lot of good city and state schools that will give you an A1 education without putting you in financial ruins Go online or go in the library and start looking. Once you got a list of these schools check for out their curriculum and the prerequisites of the classes that you need. Most schools will require that you take biology, chemistry and Trig or Calculus 1, Physics, English 1 and English 2, English Literature, History 1 and 2, Sociology...etc...you get the point. Make sure you know exactly what classes that you need..cause you can be an A student, but if you didn't take the classes the school asks for...it would be all for nothing. Okay, now that you know what school you are heading to and know what classes to take, you have to do your best and get A's. If you can't get all A's, get mostly A's and high B's. Remember this is an highly competitive field and you will be competing with the best students from all over the country...so you have to be on your A game...Do whatever you have to do to get those A grades; tutoring, extra help from the teacher, anything. And always remember this, always do your best because in the end that effort would be seen by teachers and when they see that, they will help you to achieve your goals. Now once you get into the college of your liking, you are going to have to do the process all over again for medical school. Check out the schools that are affordable and accredited. Find out their curriculum so you are on the right track for taking all of the courses you need to have, then get your A's. And everything that you did to be that good overall student for college is the same thing you have to do to be that Great overall student for medical school. Also do a lot of networking. Let your grades and your overall nice demenor speak volumes. Somewhere in your second year of medical school, you should decide what specialty you would want to go into. It helps so you can start detailing your medical school experience to fit the pre-reqs of that specialization.
Now that was the academic part of what you need to do..but just as important, you need to have a balance of extracurricular activities in your transcript on all levels of your schooling (college, medical, internship and externship). Whatever is your talent, your strength, do it in school. Join the forensics (debate) team, play an instrument in a band, become involved in student government, join the dance squad. These things may seen inconsequential but really they show schools that you are an overall excellent student. One who is not only book smart, but sociable and can adapt in any school or life situation. I hope this help you on your journey to going to medical school and becoming a doctor. |
