If soldiers were all sent to medical school and qualified, would they be more use? The concept of saving lives is more pallitable than violently taking them away. So why can't these men and women be educated to high standards for good of country and mankind instead? Or are these "small steps" really large ones backwards for man?

In Army infantry units, solders are sent to a 2 week course called "combat lifesaver". we learn basic medical stuff like giving an IV, how to set a broken femur, how to do triage, treating a sucking chest wound, things like that. it is a little more advanced than the basic medical stuff you learn, and we have a small medical bag that each squad carries

In the Army everyone is a soldier, even officers that are doctors, enlisted soldiers that are medics, some are surgeons, veterinary, dentists, and so forth. Understand that we need an armed force to protect this country. You should do some research on the U.S. Army, it is a organized branch. I hate when people think that just because you decided to serve this country you are a savage killer. Just sleep tight in your bed while you enjoy freedom

I spent 25 years in the Navy Medical Department and was always grateful for my shipmates and brothers in arms who engaged our enemies and defeated them. But, if you want to put forth the idea of turning soldiers into doctors you're a bit late. The source below is a link to the web site of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.

First of all soldiers are sent to conquer, control and contain. That is their basic purpose. Secondly it would be disadvantageous to train all troops to do medical healing... economically, strategically and logistically. Because the time needed to train them would interfere with the immediate need of the soldiers.
